about
'Creaking joints' is a song about knees, elbows and other bits of the anatomy that feel as though they could do with a squirt of oil as one gets older. This song attempts to deal with the condition with a light touch and is not designed to cover serious problems of mobility. Indeed, the lyrics suggest that creaking joints can sometimes be no more than an inconvenient nuisance.
lyrics
I'm no longer quite as young
As I once used to be
I formulate intentions
But the flesh will not agree
Dissipating stamina
With every passing year
Best not think too far ahead,
Best have a glass of beer.
Don't buy green bananas
That's a foolish thing to do
I'm no longer quite as young
As I once used to be
When I kneel upon the floor
I sometimes can't get up
Try to make my joints perform
They stubbornly get stuck
Look around to find a lever
Something I can tug
Reaching for a table leg
I fall back on the rug
Forces out a choice expletive
Then I start to laugh
When I kneel upon the floor
I sometimes can't get up!
When I put my trousers on
They never seem to fit
I pull them up but they won't budge
Around my bloody hips.
I bought this belt not long ago
I think it must have shrunk
I breathe, I wriggle,
Then I gasp, I heave, I grunt.
Cannot get the zip to close
The seams are going to split
When I put my trousers on
They never seem to fit
When I need to run a little
I just puff and pant
I used to do a marathon,
It makes me want to rant!
Walking to the Metro station
I can hear the train.
Try to reach the open doors
Before they close again.
Hurry down the platform
But the train is pulling out.
When I need to run a little
I just puff and pant.
