Trip to the tip 10.03.07

The autumn leaves are gathered in
Tine-raked, and put into the bin
I stack the sacks beside a tree
In praise of good ecology
In praise of good ecology
The off-cuts in the garden shed
The headboard from an old bedstead
Dismantled with an Allen key
In praise of good ecology
In praise of good ecology
A pair of trousers, far too small
A coat, a jacket, and a shawl
Each item has a history
In praise of good ecology
In praise of good ecology
I start to back them in my car
I'm glad the tip's not very far
I fill each nook and cavity
In praise of good ecology
In praise of good ecology
At last the loading is complete
I drive, with care, to Trimdon Street
The skips, arrayed in majesty,
In praise of good ecology
In praise of good ecology
Unbag the leaves at garden waste
Then hoy the timber, even paced
Onto the pile of wood debris
In praise of good ecology
In praise of good ecology
The bottle bank receives my glass
Unwanted clothing is the last
To be release, to be set free
In praise of good ecology
In praise of good ecology
I'm smiling as I leave the gate
I feel that I should celebrate
Recycling is one way to be
In praise of good ecology
In praise of good ecology
Notes:
Kyrielle [medieval French, from church liturgy (e.g. Kyrie eleison) with a repetitive refrain]
Originally written as a quatrain of iambic tetrameters, the last line of the verse was repeated in order to fit the melody comfortably to the 12 bar blues format.
The second EP from Northern Irish singer-songwriter Bea Stewart runs from gentle folk to pillowy pop ballads, all perfectly executed. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 15, 2024
