lyrics

Hawk’s dinner

The breeze is light, the day is warm
The birds were up with the dawn
A thrush is pounding snail on stone
Smashing through its mobile home

The spider’s spun its clever web
The fly is trapped, last rites are said
The wriggling worm has no escape
A sparrow’s gullet is its fate

Chorus:
English garden, bursting into life
Fragrant summer roase, rustling in the breeze
Quiet tranquility, solitude and peace.

Sparrow hawk on my lawn,
Blackbird’s feathers soon be gone
Head bent down, it’s time to eat
Tearing out those strips of meat.

Claws well-planted on its prey
Guaranteed its meal today
Wings droop round to form a tent
Beak is bloody, flesh is rent.

Black bird goodbye
Today’s the day you have to die...

Deck chair brings peace of mind,
Leave the mundane cares behind
Feel the sun upon your face
Feel the slowing of the pace

Ring of feathers on the grass
Evidence of violence past
The garden is bereft of song
Blackbird silenced, dead and gone.... Chorus.
