Explores the minor hassle of a breakdown in the central heating boiler

Verse 1.
The central heating boiler’s down
I phone but I’ve been placed on hold
I put another sweater on
It doesn’t really matter that it’s old
I take for granted my protection from the cold
Verse 2.
They can’t come ‘til tomorrow night
I pour a kettle in the sink
I feel a little sorry for my plight
And wash myself, in case I start to stink
Such minor hassles wake you up, they make you think.
Verse 3.
When infrastructure gets laid low
The latent chaos is revealed
Takes little to destroy the status quo
A flood, a bomb, an urban battlefield,
An atmosphere that is no longer sealed.
Verse 4.
The skin of normal life is thin
The world’s become a fragile place
It’s dangling on a fraying string
They say it’s warming at a frightening pace
It’s an uncertain future for the human race.
Verse 5.
The central heating boiler’s down
I pour myself a glass of wine
My contemplation causes me to frown
I read the paper just to pass the time
And of the heating engineer there is not sign.
Post script:
The central heating boilers down
And my feet are getting cold
And of the heating engineer there is no sign!
Finale:
What a shame! How we hate to have discomfort in our lives
Ice caps melt, and rain forrests chain-sawed, disappear for good
Earth, meanwhile, starts to boil as global warming takes its toll
Repeat Finale
